Duffstep ‘Getting To Sirius’ Free Live AV Party – Thursday 12th August

August 11, 2010

Parties in warehouses are great, you get all sweaty and grimey, the decks jump when someone gets a little too jiggy and you can urinate in the corner. However sometimes it is nice to go and see a proper, hi-tech, big-ass, mind-bending, butt-shaking show. Something that makes you actually WOW out loud.

In order to facilitate your needs on this front, August 12th sees Join The Dots taking over Cargo to celebrate the release of Duffstep‚ ‘Getting To Sirius Sampler’‚ a precursor to the debut album from our very own uber producer. Duffstep a lad who has been playing over the last 6 months alongside the likes of Flying Lotus, Martyn, Kode 9 and King Midas Sound will be collaborating with Rebel Overlay, one of the UK’s highest flying VJs. They have put together what can only be described as a visual-sound clash of almighty proportions. Imagine sternum crushing beats accompanied by one off bespoke visuals, really big, really loud and very, very special indeed.

Also appearing along with a host of illustrators and artists from London’s underground will be Join The Dot’s duo Loose Fit, the self proclaimed best looking men at any party, as well as Join The Dots artists Chroma Set and Helen S. These will be backed up by Join the Dots resident DJs John Donaghy and Namedrop & Benoit as well as another special guest in the form of Young Montana? He is young though he is not from Montana, Mary Anne Hobbs proclaimed him to be the best unsigned artist of the year so far and he makes music that defies description but also defies you not to loose your mind. Loose Fit, Young Montana? and Chroma Set will also be appearing on remix packages of the album later this year.

Duffstep – Back For More EP // Free Download

Duffstep – Getting to Sirius Sampler // 12″ vinyl available at Juno

JAY ELECTRONICA LIVE AT CARGO – AUGUST 10TH

August 3, 2010

He’s back..

Jay Electronica is a rapper and producer known for his use of percussionless film soundtracks as a background for his abstract lyrical style, and his associations with the late J-Dilla, Just Blaze and Nas. The unconventional nature of his music, and the lack of conventional release methods for that music, have made him the object of much attention, since 2007.

His track ‘Exhibit C’ has taken the US airwaves by storm, becoming No1 on US iTunes off his Twitter push alone. The biggest song in 2010 thus far in its genre and is hailed as the man who has brought hip-hop back.

Having sold out 2 Jazz Cafe’s on his last visit, fresh off the back of a UK appearance with Nas and Lovebox festival and his last release featuring P Diddy, 2010 promises to be a very big year for Jay Electronica.

This will be Jay’s most intimate UK show – not to be missed.

The Field remix Bear in Heaven

July 5, 2010

In anticipation of the Bear in Heaven show hosted by Eat Your Own Ears at Cargo on Saturday August 21st. We have a little treat to wet your whistle. The Field have put together a brilliant remix of Bear In Heaven’s, Ultimate Satisfaction, which is being hosted by taste makers Pitchfork.

From Pitchfork:
”As previously reported, Brooklyn synth-gazers Bear in Heaven are set to reissue last year’s BNM’d album Beast Rest Forth Mouth September 14 via Hometapes. The reissue will come with a bonus disc of remixes from notables such as High Places, Studio, Jesu’s Justin K. Broadrick, and minimal techno mastermind Axel Willner, aka the Field. The Field’s rework of Beast Rest Forth Mouth standout “Ultimate Satisfaction” is available above.

For this eight-minute-plus remix, Willner takes the original tune and dips it in a bath of warm, tumbling drum beats and wavering synths, cutting and pasting vocalist Jon Philpot’s yearning calls.”

Zombie Summer Soundsystem Party This Sunday

July 2, 2010

The Zombie Soundsystem returns to Cargo for another day of mayhem.

The last party was amazing & we are happy to be doing it again.

They’ll be making full use of the outside garden with a soundsystem playing a summer soundtrack to lift your spirits with a barbecue & cocktails.

Come sunset … There’s a very special live performance from the legendary

ROBERT OWENS (Chicago). And a special 4hr birthday set from Zombie resident Shane Watcha and friends… Dj Nobody // Maura // Alexander Pereira

Ask any fan of dance music who their favourite male vocalist is and nine times out of ten Robert Owens name will come back. Sure, there are other great male house vocalists out there, but with more than twenty years as a gifted singer, songwriter, producer and DJ under his belt, Robert has not so much embellished house music as played a large part in defining it. ‘Tears’, ‘I’ll Be Your Friend’ and ‘Ordinary People’ are just some of the tunes that have borne his black velvet voice and gone on to become truly classic dance records. 2008 saw the release of his first artist album in 10 years – ‘Night-time Stories’.

From spinning Acid House in a small club in South Africa many years ago, to presently playing alongside house music’s greatest legends at London’s coolest clubs. A regular in Europe from Paris to Moscow, Shane’s lust for house music has seen him slug his record bags around Europe, touring the world over while continuing to hold down his London residency for both Circo Loco & Zombie Soundsystem. With a steady flow of record releases via his own record label…Zombie Soundsystem Among the current trend of DJ’s/Producers coming out of London, Shane is a rare Breed. He has crafted a sound that is uniquely him and distinguishes him from the rest of the pack. It’s all delivered in a supremely tight mix that flows with emotion and slamming underground productions. Shane’s sets in London have earned him a fan base that some top jocks can only dream about. Since those humble beginnings in his hometown of Durban, Shane has gone on to be a regular at London’s top clubs, playing show from Glastonbury to warehouse raves in East London.
