Free Fridays Roll On

January 13, 2009

Another Friday, yet another killer line-up.

The Deathset, Thunderheist, V V Brown, XXXChange, Boy-8-Bit, Bill Brewster, Disco Bloodbath, Drums of Death, Chromehoof, Bass Clef… these are just some of the acts that have passed through Cargo since our first Free Friday back in November.

And we are not done. Don’t think we are taking our foot off the pedal, oh no!

Coming up this Friday,  the brilliant Dj and producer duo, Runaway (DFA) will be laying down a thick layer of disco on our dancefloor. Check some of their own productions on their myspace to get an idea of what is in store. But before the New York dons launch their assault on our dancefloor the riotous Chik Budo and Transformer will play live sets, escorted by the Hot City djs.

Oh, yes, and, did I mention it’s free to get in?

P.S.: to make sure youcatch all our acts, be sure to arrive at Cargo by 8pm.

Sam3: Big in Black

January 5, 2009

As winter drew in to 2008, The rather lovely Sam3 came down to Cargo to introduce the world of Rivington Street to his huge murals. We love them and now we love him. You need to get to know Sam3

The guy is a freakin’ renegade of the best kind and his video work makes us think too much, cry a little then sleep like innocent babies in a world full of malice.

Cocktail of the Month: Mai Tai

I find cocktails are best before bed, to be consumed whilst reclining on a freshly made bed watching The West Wing. However some people like to drink them out with friends, in a bar or in other such entertainment emporiums. Cargo, quick to notice this trend of people drinking whilst socialising, reveals their Cocktail of the month for January 2009: The Mai Tai.

Mai Tai is a Dutch pop-act formed in 1983 by the Dutch record producers Eric van Tijn and Jochem Fluitsma damn you Wikipedia.

The Mai Tai cocktail was invented by Victor J. Bergeron one afternoon for some friends (see social drinking, it’s everywhere!) who were visiting from Tahiti. One of them tasted it and cried out: “Maita’i roa!” (Literally “good very!”, figuratively “Out of this world!”) — hence the name.

The Cargo recipe for the Mai Tai is a hefty does of 10 Cane rum, fresh lime juice, Cointreau and Orgeat (a sweet syrup made from almonds, sugar and rose water or orange-flower water). For the month of January it’s only £5.50 and it is absolutely banging.

We nicked this picture from the excellent: http://www.scienceofdrink.com/
