If you gonna form a super group, it better be an all star one. Check out the ballin roster of NYC’s hot new mega group Cubic Zirconia – Tiombe Lockhart (PPP), Nick Hook and Todd Weinstock (Men Women & Children). Last time we saw Miss Lockhart sultered across the Cargo stage was at the NYC/LDN night (R.I.P.) the previous year. Once we heard about her new band, we wanted ins. Download the free mixtape here and get ready to see them perform live this Friday. Now be off with you!

Following the success of our lunches for a fiver, we’ve switched up the menu in the restaurant with some absolute corking dishes of traditional and not so traditional British Dishes including Fish & Chips, Chicken Pie, Veggie Pie, Beef Burger and Goulash. My personal favourite is the Penne Pasta with Butternut Squash & Kale pesto. It’s whizzo! The Penne with meatballs isn’t too bad either. All dishes available from 12pm-3pm, Monday to Friday.
Joining Canada’s party-starters Jokers of the Scene and their UK counter parts Night Slugs (L-vis1990 & Bok Bok & Manara, are Ana and Carol of CSS playing an exclusive DJ Set this Free Friday. For those unfamilar with CSS, their music represents the other sounds coming out of Brazil, its not just baile funk or samba. Try a bit of synthesiers and electro pop for size. The place is going to be on fire this Friday, just like a hot summer’s night at Carnival. Will have to rename the club Curacao Cargo!

Cargo was host to Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide awards once again this year, and once again, it was a leftfield music gathering of ‘mamooth’ proportions. High fives to everyone backstage and behind the bar for making the whole shindig flow so smoothly. You can listen to some of the show of Mr. Peterson’s Radio one show here.

The Broad Casting night opened it’s 2009 account last Thursday night with Tony Allen being joined by a whole host of billed and unbilled guests. The Hypnotic Brass ensemble absolutely rocked the spot. Again you can hear the whole set streamed from the Red Bull Music Academy’s radio. (Link coming soon.) and listen to an interview with the one man drum whirlwind himself on BBC 6′s Music Week
Speaking of BBC 6, their new TV trail is such a blantant rip of of Blu’s MUTO animation piece, it’s jaw dropping. But it would be naive of us to think that Advertising companies ripping of ideas from artists is a new phenomenon and doesn’t happen day in day. Since the advert uses (without permission!) one of the walls of Cargo, we just want to say that Cargo in no way condones this advert made by ad agency Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R and would also like to reiterate the words of the great Bill Hicks: “if anyone here is in advertising or marketing, kill yourself.“
Here’s the original MUTO piece from BLU. Brilliant, confounding and in all it’s glory. And not selling anything.
