The Field remix Bear in Heaven

July 5, 2010

In anticipation of the Bear in Heaven show hosted by Eat Your Own Ears at Cargo on Saturday August 21st. We have a little treat to wet your whistle. The Field have put together a brilliant remix of Bear In Heaven’s, Ultimate Satisfaction, which is being hosted by taste makers Pitchfork.

From Pitchfork:
”As previously reported, Brooklyn synth-gazers Bear in Heaven are set to reissue last year’s BNM’d album Beast Rest Forth Mouth September 14 via Hometapes. The reissue will come with a bonus disc of remixes from notables such as High Places, Studio, Jesu’s Justin K. Broadrick, and minimal techno mastermind Axel Willner, aka the Field. The Field’s rework of Beast Rest Forth Mouth standout “Ultimate Satisfaction” is available above.

For this eight-minute-plus remix, Willner takes the original tune and dips it in a bath of warm, tumbling drum beats and wavering synths, cutting and pasting vocalist Jon Philpot’s yearning calls.”

Zombie Summer Soundsystem Party This Sunday

July 2, 2010

The Zombie Soundsystem returns to Cargo for another day of mayhem.

The last party was amazing & we are happy to be doing it again.

They’ll be making full use of the outside garden with a soundsystem playing a summer soundtrack to lift your spirits with a barbecue & cocktails.

Come sunset … There’s a very special live performance from the legendary

ROBERT OWENS (Chicago). And a special 4hr birthday set from Zombie resident Shane Watcha and friends… Dj Nobody // Maura // Alexander Pereira

Ask any fan of dance music who their favourite male vocalist is and nine times out of ten Robert Owens name will come back. Sure, there are other great male house vocalists out there, but with more than twenty years as a gifted singer, songwriter, producer and DJ under his belt, Robert has not so much embellished house music as played a large part in defining it. ‘Tears’, ‘I’ll Be Your Friend’ and ‘Ordinary People’ are just some of the tunes that have borne his black velvet voice and gone on to become truly classic dance records. 2008 saw the release of his first artist album in 10 years – ‘Night-time Stories’.

From spinning Acid House in a small club in South Africa many years ago, to presently playing alongside house music’s greatest legends at London’s coolest clubs. A regular in Europe from Paris to Moscow, Shane’s lust for house music has seen him slug his record bags around Europe, touring the world over while continuing to hold down his London residency for both Circo Loco & Zombie Soundsystem. With a steady flow of record releases via his own record label…Zombie Soundsystem Among the current trend of DJ’s/Producers coming out of London, Shane is a rare Breed. He has crafted a sound that is uniquely him and distinguishes him from the rest of the pack. It’s all delivered in a supremely tight mix that flows with emotion and slamming underground productions. Shane’s sets in London have earned him a fan base that some top jocks can only dream about. Since those humble beginnings in his hometown of Durban, Shane has gone on to be a regular at London’s top clubs, playing show from Glastonbury to warehouse raves in East London.

War Child’s ARMY OF YOU 2010 – Thursday 1st July @ Cargo

June 28, 2010

This Thursday see War Child’s ARMY OF YOU

War Child is a small international charity that protects children living in the world’s most dangerous war zones. They currently work in Iraq, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

Their vision is simple and one. It’s something that we take for granted in the western world. War Child are working towards a world where the lives are now longer torn apart by war. Their mission is to support and strengthen the protective environment for children who, as a result of conflict, live with a combination of insecurity, poverty and exclusion.

This is a charity that should not be ignored. It’s incredible to think that in these modern times people are growing up without knowing or experiencing a proper childhood, we are living in world of lost innocence. Instead of being able to laugh and joke around with their friends, go to school and do all the usual things that you and I used to do children are missing out and having to survive from day to day in the most horrific of conditions and circumstances.

This Thursday War Child Presents an evening of music to raise awareness, past War Child events have included great bands and artists that have included Radiohead, Oasis, Coldplay, Paul McCartney and many more. This years line up is no exception:

The Invisible The Invisible’s amazing debut record was nominated for the Mercury Prize last year and, quite simply, they are one of the best live bands on the planet right now. A golden voiced soul singer, who also happens to be a phenomenally gifted guitarist is backed by a rhythm section straight out of the underground New York scene circa 1982. The new stuff we’ve heard sounds even more monumental, too.

O.Children The capital’s premier gloom merchants, O.Children have all the brooding (yet stylish) intensity of Joy Division underpinned with big pop choruses and guitar hooks. They’ll be massive this time next year.

becoming Real A new, young shining light in the world of bass driven, live electronica. Beautiful melodies and bleeps over pulsating drums. As fascinating to watch as it is to dance to.

Disco 3000 You know all about this one, right? One of the biggest and most important DJs in the world digs out the depths of his record boxes and spreads his love of all things disco, proto-house and anything else with massive live drum breaks. We love you Mr. A

Friendly Fires We’re very happy about this one since the lads played for us at the very first Army Of You. Since then, they’ve taken over the world with their hugely infectious style of post-indie-post-punk-pop. As is to be expected, they also have amazing record collections but, unlike most bands, they know exactly how to work a dancefloor when in the DJ booth. And yet even more girls are left swooning.

Casper C The wizard behind the curtain of the vital Bloggers Delight club, Casper is also an international jetsetting/tastemaking DJ in his own right. Electronic music from all genres to make your head spin.

Oneman Oneman has almost single handly re-invented old school garage – taking the art of djing to a new level – recontextualising 2 step garage into dubstep, grime, ‘wonky’ and beyond. He is still the only artist ever to appear on Mary Anne Hobb ‘s BBC Radio 1 show without releasing a single record

Solo The latest addition to Fabric’s enviable list of resident DJs, Solo is one of the most talented DJs in the country. He spearheaded (and named) the new sensation of ‘midget house’ (somewhere between minimal and fidget) and his remixes continue to set blogosphere alight.

Mumdance We turn away for a second and suddenly our good friend Jack is now Diplo’s favourite, has released a track with Brodinski and continues to smash it as a DJ all over the world. Good on the lad!

Deadly Rhythm Soundsystem We’re really happy to have these guys host our second room for us. They’re club night remains one of the most important in the capital. Just recently, they have booked the likes of kode9, Joy Orbison, Appleblim, Joker, Dam Funk… They are also wicked DJs themselves.

Beans On Toast The inimitable Mr.Toast returns this summer with a full band of merry man. We’re told to expect up to 8 of them. Folk music with its tongue firmly in cheek, this will sound perfect in the sun.

Cheatahs Punk rock with an acoustic guitar is the order of the day here. Young & Lost loved him so much they released a single on their ace label and it sold out straight away.

So why not come down and support this great cause and at the same time catch some of the most talented bands and acts around. Tickets are £9 each. With a great line up this is one not to be missed. Even if you can’t make it down, please visit the War Child website to see exactly what this Charity is all about. Donations are also welcome.

Reanimating the dead – Zombie summer soundsystem!

May 7, 2010

It’s 3pm on Bank Holiday Sunday… It’s not great weather and the streets seem pretty empty… But walk inside Cargo and the place is Night of the Living Dead!

Shane Watcha is tonight’s bokor and is back in the East End, and from what I witnessed, he has reanimated the dead!

Photobucket

Cargo’s live arch is at capacity and the place is an ocean of movement! The music’s loud and the crowd alive!

Photobucket

The backdrop for the afternoon party goers is a twisted Alice in Wonderland…Projected on to the huge screen!

The party is still going strong, the crowd are drinking cocktails from fish bowls and there’s even a mad hatters tea party in arch 1.. with the dancing zombie crowd drinking out of tea pots!

During the night we bump into zombie Alices..Mad Hatters…. Queen of Hearts and people just out to dance non stop!

The music tonight is a fine blend of house, minimal house, techno and dub….. Get a taster here-  The morning after the night before mix!

Keep your eyes open for the next one! It’s gonna be massive…..
