Five Easy Pieces is a new club night, now on its second edition, which for its primer brought the UK debut of the Nacho Lovers, a live set by the Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosarus and saw queues snaking down Rivington Street. For the second episode, Five Easy Pieces brings another 5 fresh acts from for your enjoyment. And for virtually nothing.
New Look are model/chanteuse Sarah Ruba and multi-instrumentalist Adam Pavao from Brooklyn, NYC. This husband and wife combo have been making sweet sweet music together since 2005, when they met and fell in love at a music conference. Just as their close friends Machine Drum and Theophilus London, New Look push the boundaries of Soul music with an added element of contemporary Pop and Electronica, creating a sound that is both instantly recognisable and fresh as a rose. Unlike many other electronic pop bands, New Look have a cultured music background, which allows them to improvise with confidence during their live sets. We are in for something special here.
Born in Bayonne NJ, Mike Simonetti grew up a hardcore punk kid in the New York hardcore scene in the mid 1980s. Through friends involved in the club scene, he began going to nightclubs during the heyday of NYC nightlife - the late 1980s. After becoming a regular as a promoter and dj in the New York party scene, in 2006 Mike started a sub-label based on a blog that was started as a joke, sort of. Italians Do It Better was meant to be a fun disco record collectors blog- but that turned into a serious full time sub-label focusing strictly on limited run cdrs and 12"s by his favorite producers, groups, and remixers: a true collector's haven of quality disco cuts, both old and new. With Mike Simonetti at the helm you know what you are going to get, and you are definitely going to get it good.
Tiedye are a dj and producer duo from Sweden who have been making dreamy balearic house tracks and remixes to ridiculously high standards for a couple of years now. Acknowledging this, they have just been snapped up by Simonetti's Italians Do It Better label where they have released a 12" called "Nothing Else Matters" with more on the way. Bliss.
Why O. Children aren't a household name by now is anyone's guess. They make pop with an edge; a very sharp edge that makes O. Children one of the most exciting bands in the UK right now. Their live shows are a thrill-a-minute rollercoaster ride. We can't recommend watching this band enough.
Kate Moross is one of those annoying people who can do everything, and do it brilliantly well. Graphic designer, illustrator, label manager, photographer, dj... and only just 22. Pass the sick bucket.
