Shaanti marks 11 Years in the Music Industry with the celebration of their residency at Cargo, feat Shri Live, Tim Whelan from Transglobal Underground, Pandit G, Champion Sounds and visuals by SKA.

Having advocated complex leftfield Asian breaks as its musical road map since arriving in 1999, this UK institute returns hard with a double-edge celebration and a impressive line-up plus, Champion Sounds, a showcase platform predicting the future Asian Sounds of the electronic and dance generation at Cargo on Saturday 12th June.

Based in Birmingham, with roots firmly placed in the progressive Asian fusion and breaks and bass industry, Shaanti’s wild mash-up of dub-step, drum and bass and Asian electronic ,Western and Eastern fusion hybrid sounds, and its firm policy of quality over quantity has been the guiding principle for these guys: making them music's great-untapped resource.

“What started out 11 years ago with only 50 people in attendance has steadily grown into a UK institution and a innovative pioneering event far exceeding anyone's expectations," said Manga, founder of Shaanti. "We are all very proud of this accomplishment and grateful to our fans and to all the artists like Nitin Sawhney, Talvin Singh, Asian Dub Foundation and everyone who played for us and who helped get us here. “We’re also proud to be back in London, celebrating our residency again at Cargo with Shri, Tim Whelan from Transglobal Underground and Pandit G on Saturday 12th June." He ends.

Tempering heavier indo-jazz alternative influences with the tabla, drum and bass, Shri leaves an unmistakable mark. Performing live with his band, Shri aims to assimilate the qualities found in music - including rhythm, tempo, mood, intensity and compositional structure - within relentless classical melodrama.

Taking cues from the folk and alternative music scenes of the '90s, with undertones of Indian sub-continent roots and a global jazz infusion, multi-talented musician Shri’s expressiveness lends a spectral quality to the group's brooding alt-world fusion sound. While one of modern music's best-kept secrets is about to be blurted out - make sure you're within earshot.

With no signs here that Pandit G seeking a safe middle ground and regardless of how conventionally he reaches his goals, he's always at his finest when he is being ferocious with his music, and as such this with A.G.N.I exclusive for Shaanti, possibly his best performance to date.

This legendary artist is further evidence of Britain's finest music hero's, most notably, though his new collective A.G.N.I (Angry Generation Needs Inspiration) is an intoxicating mix of apocalyptic riffs, super sharp shooter raps and spits, and Pandit G’s deck wizardry. It’s important to underline this as he is arguably one of the biggest names who have thrown out the rule book while being in Asian Dub Foundation, but its highly impressive that this ambitious incarnation, vivid nature of this band makes that seem entirely justified. While Tim Whelan will take to the decks next in this astounding line-up.

Know for touring the world with the infamous Transglobal Underground, Tim Whelan takes time out from his busy schedule to join Shaanti for a special DJ set. Whelan’s DJ sets are mind-bogglingly and inspiring as he sets up tension between the often gentle sounds of Indian raags and its benevolent club surroundings, and this, his play-list of re-arranged traditional classics, extraordinary, trance-like oscillates between dub, drum and bass, Asian underground, with all genres in between, are mix in effortless and often to great success.

In contrast to our next artists, who founded out of an obsession with collecting film, photography and slide projectors Shaanti’s next guest, SKA, has forge a unique style of image-making, from print and motion graphics for a audiovisual for screen jumping performance.

SKA’s visual mash-ups work often feature television, film, music and video game footage sliced and diced into blistering, post-modern dance floor video’s. Her visuals varied mix brings in a host of influences from all over the electronic music spectrum, meaning you'll get the Bollywood film ‘Disco Dancer’ idiosyncratic disco mixing seamlessly into M.I.A tones in a mash-up with DJ Eli. Whereas some real quality lies within the next feature of the night.

Champion Sound, brainchild of Sharnita K Athwal, co-partner of Shaanti shares all: “Champion Sounds a showcase platform to sound-clash many creative musical forms and genres into one night; it also a chance for us to promote and hear DJs and exclusive live performances from artists we’re predicting will be the future sounds of the electronic and leftfield music generation.

“Consisting of live experimental sounds I’m delighted and proud to present for the first time a diverse group of performers – Musical explorer and frequency experimenter Universal Taal Project, electronic futurist rapper S-Endz, saxophone house supernova Trav 'saXingh' Panesar, drum and bass DJ, Fluid, dub-step DJRazor Rekta from Anti Social UK and artist The Dhol Collective to the Champion Sounds and Shaanti’s main stage.” She ends.

They will also be joined by Engine-EarZ Experiment (DJ Set), DJs Dulz (Bazna), Juttla from Eastern Pressure Recordings and Fusing Naked Beats and others.

With a year’s break from UK soil, other imports may have tried to outshine Shaanti in the past, but they're clearly ready again to make some noise of their own. This celebration is further evidence of their enthusiasm for Leftfield Eastern and Western electronic sounds and award winning programming leaves an unmistakable mark in musical splendour. Like Shaanti this event is both bold and defiant, creating a signature sound that typically triggers reaction; the result is stronger than you might think and once again, it falls to Cargo to remind us just how powerful they can be.
