In Africa there is a a tradition of celebrating Life over Death. For this reason, the opportunity should not be missed to celebrate the life and work of one of Africa's finest: FELA ANIKULAPO KUTI

 

This night will feature Dele Sosimi and his Afrobeat Orchestra delighting us with his undeniable pedigree translated into some of the finest Afrobeat compositions today from his 'Identity' Album as well as carefully re-orchestrated Fela favourites/classics, including Lady, Gentleman, Ololufemi, Army Arrangement, Coffin for Head of State, Zombie, to name but a few. The selection from Fela's repertoire will mark the changes and development in Fela's music through the decades from Koola lobitos (Hi-life, jazz) African 70 (Afro Funk) and Egypt 80 (Afro big band sound, with longer, more intricate pieces).

 

There will be special guest musicians on the night to pay their respects with The Shrine Djs, Rita Ray & Max Reinhardt as well as DJ Koichi Sakai (Afrobeat Vibration) DJing on the night, playing memorable Afrobeat Anthems and re-creating the spirit of the Afrika Shrine with a selection of Artwork from Lemi Ghariokwus current exhibition on special visual slideshow.
