Cargo's Free Fridays team up with Iheartcomix for a night of film synth, pop punk, electronic and dance music .
Designer Drugs (Michael Vincent Patrick and Theodore Paul Nelson) lead lifestyles of the rich and famous, but are really just poor boys who love helicopters and pop banger music ... and a few other things that will not be noted. Currently, Designer Drugs is releasing new material with Iheartcomix Records. They've also been found partying on the couch at the Iheartcomix office. With one member attending med school and the other drinking whiskey across the globe, to keep from going crazy last year - the DD boys produced over 23 remixes and DJ'd over 100 shows around the world. This year, to keep from going crazy, Designer Drugs is putting the focus on original material while continuing to tour the galaxy and party harder than ever.
Futurecop! was founded by Manzur Iqbal from Manchester about three year ago, when he wanted to create a sound inspired by 80s teen flicks, especially the movies of John Hughes (RIP) and sci-fi cartoons like Transformers or Thundercats, not caring about being different or trying to be commercial, even though his music might as well be called pop music. Later on Peter Carrol from London teamed up with him and together they are now recreating the atmosphere and vibe of the soundtracks to the best 80s movies that never existed. Crystal Castles and Van She Tech have already shown Futurecop! some love and they are here to show you why. Synth Heaven.
Although ‘electro house' is fast becoming something of a dirty word, when it comes to Tom Neville you've got to give credit where credit's due. He was doing the genre before it even had a name back in the day. Now, kicking off 2009 with a flurry of remix excitement with no less than Britney Spears and Keane and frequent plays on Tong, Tom Neville is impressing once again with his flair for production. With many projects on the go, including the live band Colouring In, 2009 is set to be a big year for Tom and his label - Loveminuszero, which has a mean looking release schedule for the coming months.
If Michael Hutchence had lived to collaborate with Justice, he might have made a record like Love Get Out of My Way. Not my words but The Guardian's, when introducing Milke as the Band of the Day earlier in the year. Milke are Andrew 'Friendly' Kornweibel on keyboards/drum machines and Ra on vocals. A duo from London whose perfectly polished electro-pop gems will stand the test of time. Just wait and see.
Newislands are one of the freshest (in every sense of the word) bands in the electro-pop scene. With only a handful of live appearances in their belt they have already won over many hearts with their epic instrumentals, sumptuous soundscapes and snarling lyrics, all delivered with real bite and complete conviction.
On dj support in the night Wonky Pop's Rene will man the decks and make it just right.
LIVE: FUTURECOP! + OCELOT + MILKE + NEWISLANDS
DJS: DESIGNERS DRUGS + TOM NEVILLE + RENE (WONKY POP)
