Q: What do you call a bi-monthly gathering of the most exciting electronic music DJs and live acts in the world under one roof in East London?
A: You call it Go!Zilla, and the roof belongs to Cargo. Go!Zilla is back on November 22nd, headlined by seasoned disco sickos Padded Cell and electronic funk wunderkind Elmore Judd, with DJ support from Stopmakingme and resident James Priestley.
DC Recordings' Padded Cell know a thing or two about seducing dancefloors; they know a thing or two about scaring ‘em witless too. Their recently released Night Must Fall album was a knuckle-whitening trip into a sonic headspace informed by vintage horror flicks and the sleaze, experimentation and low-slung basslines of early 80s New York; kindred spirits like Chloe Battant and Liquid Liquid's Dennis Young came along for the ride. Their live show is precision-tooled to knock socks off.
Elmore Judd and his band have built up a sizeable cult following of late, thanks to a killer album (Insect Funk) recorded for London-based imprint Honest Jon's (home to Tony Allen, Wareika Hill Sounds and Damon Albarn's The Good, The Bad and The Queen). Their ambitious, eccentric pop style is difficult to pin down, but calls to mind Hot Chip, Prince and Talking Heads in its flamboyant mix of the organic and electronic. With talent and star quality to spare, Elmore Judd is an inspiring, ever so slightly unhinged live performer deserving of your undivided attention.
DJ support comes from Go!Zilla resident James Priestley and Stopmakingme. James Priestley is co-creator of the secretsundaze club and record label, and has produced forward-thinking house music for Simple Records and remixes for the likes of 2020 Soundsystem and Spektrum. October sees Priestley and Giles Smith release their secretsundaze Vol. 2 mix CD, the follow-up to last year's acclaimed Vol.1. James is nominated in the Best DJ category at DJ Magazine's 2008 Best of British Awards, and secretsundaze is up for Best Small Club.
Stopmakingme is part of the Kill ‘Em All and Adventures In The Beetroot Field crews, whose disco-fried house, indie and electro selections are always on-point and in-demand. Go!Zilla is always a big deal for music fans, and the deal just got bigger.
