After parading in carnivals this year in Leicester, Luton, Germany, The Mayor's Thames Festival, Hackney and Notting Hill Carnival, with the theme of Rio de Janeiro - The Fascinating City, it seems fitting that Paraíso School of Samba return to Cargo for a party to celebrate the triumph of the Rio de Janeiro bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games. The night will feature the incredible Paraiso bateria (drummers) playing real Rio samba, puxador (singer) singing all Paraiso's carnival sambas as well as classic sambas from some of Rio's best loved samba schools (Mangueira, Estaçio de Sá & União da Ilha to name but a few) and of course the wonderful Paraíso passistas (samba dancers) will be dancing up a storm, plus DJ and all for the recession-beating price of £3.
Paraiso School of Samba is London's premier Rio de Janeiro-style samba school. Founded in 2002 by Mestre Esteves and Henrique da Silva, two brothers from Rio who grew up in Rio's samba and carnival culture, Paraiso School of Samba is one of the few samba schools in the UK that preserves the authentic traditions of a Brazilian samba school and maintains continued links to top samba schools in Rio de Janeiro.
Since Paraiso began they have changed the face of London's Notting Hill Carnival with dazzling parades that have featured many of the top stars of the Rio carnival. Paraiso are the only non-Caribbean group to have won the Notting Hill Carnival Best Band on the Road competition outright - an honour which they hold dearly.
