PARTS & LABOR are a Brooklyn-based quartet, who combine tumultuous noise with enormous, triumphant melodies - malfunctioning electronics howl in agony, drums rupture like fireworks, and battle cries are belted through a monolithic layer of distorted bass and guitar. P & L revel in day-glo noise, charred drones, punk velocity and phoenix-like hooks - a unique blast influenced by the clamour of Husker Du, the bluster of Boredoms and the homemade spirituals of Neutral Milk Hotel. AN EXPERIMENT ON A BIRD IN THE AIR PUMP are a trio from London. Unassuming but utterly engaging, their music possesses a minimal yet deeply guttural vibe that reaches into Hades' pit of horrors and proceeds to grab the ghastly beasts and pound their demonised heads around the drums like satanic pom-poms. Think a noisy Ronettes meets the Banshees girl-group, or the Jesus and Mary Chain gone totally goth.
