Paraíso School of Samba's queen of the bateria competition is the UK's greatest samba competition and is always a roadblock. A panel of celebrity judges (previous judges have included Paul O'Grady, Marc Almond and choreographer Les Child) will decide which of the 10 competitors will be crowned queen of Paraíso's carnival parade at this year's Notting Hill Carnival. The queen also represents Paraíso throughout the year at performances and events. The queen of the bateria competition is a dance-off like no other with the top samba dancers in the country wowing the crowds with their moves - not to be missed! Plus DJ's and full bateria show.
Paraíso School of Samba is London's premier Rio de Janeiro-style samba school. Founded in 2002 by Mestre Esteves and Henrique da Silva, two brothers from Rio who grew up in Rio's samba and carnival culture, Paraíso School of Samba is one of the few samba schools in the UK that preserves the authentic traditions of a Brazilian samba school and maintains continued links to top samba schools in Rio de Janeiro.
Since Paraíso began they have changed the face of London's Notting Hill Carnival with dazzling parades that have featured many of the top stars of the Rio carnival. Paraiso are the only non-Caribbean group to have won the Notting Hill Carnival Best Band on the Road competition outright - an honour which they hold dearly.
