---Please note: The Koko Birdy Nam Nam show has now been moved to Cargo due to technical reasons.---
This July's Soundcrash clubnight at Cargo is more than just an excuse to have a sweaty boogie, it's a celebration of 2 leading London musical talent's album releases, with Zero dB's ‘Heavy Weight Gringos' on Ninja Tune, and a sample of Skwee from Sweden's Rigas Den Andre and Southampton's Part Time Heroes demonstrating their Jazz-funk stylings.
As any recording geek knows, zero dB is the optimum level for recording. Yet the duo who have taken this studio jargon as their moniker place no limit on their production other than to flap ears, trigger nods and shake tail feathers wherever and whenever it's played.
Rewind to September 2006, when 'Bongos, Bleeps & Basslines' hits the streets sprinting, hurdling genres and kicking its analogue spikes into the bland face of all who stand in its path. This debut artist album, "Ninja Tune's best release ever" according to Trevor Jackson, had dirty jazz&bassmeisters zero dB propelled overground long enough to tour their bangers and mash it up at parties around the world, before burrowing back underground.
Rigas Den Andre hails from cold Sweden, yet somehow manages to make hot music! At the forefront of quirkily titled new-sub genre Skwee (like dubstep but with more video-game sounds!) Rigas is fast becoming an international favourite, with a set at this year's Sonar festival in Barcelona, followed by a stint at this prestigious Shoreditch venue and one of the hottest nights in London town!
The Part Time Heroes are two undisclosed young musicians currently residing in the leafy suburbs of Southampton. Although their names are not known to the masses, their music soon will be, as this part-time shop assistant and part-time sandwich deliveryman plan to convert their part-time music careers into full-time employment.
With eclectic DJ sets and an exciting live show, things are looking up. Having performed live on the main stage at last year's BIG CHILL festival, rocked London's Cargo and YoYo, Jazz Cafe and KoKo venue's with their 7 piece band, they've also DJ'd at selected spots in Leeds, Brighton, Bristol and further a field in Slovenia and Sweden. In addition to this they've had mixes broadcast on Kiss 101, Ibiza Global Radio, Sonar Radio and recently turned out a superb BBC Maida Vale live session on Gilles 'Worldwide show', earning them TWO nominations at the 2006 GP Worldwide Awards.
Having drawn comparisons to Portishead, St.Germain and even Groove Armada, there is no question that the Heroes debut album is an exciting, eclectic and fresh journey over different tempos, incorporating live instrumentation, deep jazz roots and organic soul nourishing goodness.
