This September to banish those autumnal back-to-school blues we've put together a line-up that could well be straight out of Richard D James' dreams, bringing together some of the finest artists on the Warp roster from past and present.
Chris Clark has been releasing sublime electronic music on Warp since waay back in 01, with a distinguishably meticulous production style making use of live drum samples, then chopping them into highly complex, highly contagious beats. After shortening his name to simply Clark with the 2006 release of Body Riddle (an album that took 3 years to make, and it shows!) he has continued to amaze audiences around the world with his live outings, and we are lucky enough to have such an outing in the arches of Cargo this evening on the back of his recent release 'Empty the bones of you', a melodic masterpiece that says 'everything I could possibly want to say about melodic electronic music'.. www.myspace.com/throttleclark
Luckyme are an extended family of musicians and artists from Scotland. Some are beautiful, others ugly, and we've got some of the more aesthetically pleasing ones playing for us tonight in the form of Rustie, Dom Sum and The Blessings. Rustie is older than he looks, and sounds harder than he looks too! Quickly getting a name for himself across the UK with his glithchy, grimey own brand of dubstep-hip-hop we are more than happy to have him along for the party! Dom Sum is a director of the Luckyme clan, and a rapper and producer as well as an artist and designer. The Blessings are the shizzle, and they run the whole Luckyme operation. In short, this is the kind of scene that would never happen in London and we are more than pleased to be showing you what is possible when people get together with the same ideas and a bit of motivation. www.myspace.com/thisisluckyme
Tim Exile is a classically trained violinist, a philosophy graduate and has a masters in electroaccoustic composition, so there's no surprise that his drum'n'bass has a deeper, more experimental side to it than normal. Having released titles on such Venerable imprints as Moving Shadow and Planet Mu, he has now landed at what could be called his spiritual home at Warp. He has been a leader in self-programmed music software to create a truly live show, come see what all the fuss is about! www.myspace.com/timexile
Memory9, aka Gadi Sassoon, is Italy's genre-defying, bass heavy, London-dwelling export. A sound artist strongly focused on live performance, Memory9's output takes such diverse shapes as to be regularly showcased in art galleries, on rave rigs and in world-class clubs alike. www.myspace.com/gadisassoon
Dels is another graphic designer/musician, this time hailing from London. Currently working on an album with Hot Chip's Joe, his music has been described as ‘one of the best things UK hip-hop has ever produced'. He describes his own art as ‘a world somewhere between Tristram Shandy and don Quixote, Buck Rogers and jungle explorers, rather than here not there I try to bring some there into my here...' And it really is as interesting as it sounds! Check it. www.myspace.com/imdels
