Cargo is proud to host the launch night for "Diggin in the BGP Vaults" - a mix and celebration of BGP's 21st birthday. To mark this momentous occasion there will be a BGP rare funk 7" giveaway on the night for a lucky few!
Expect Funk, Soul, Jazz, Boogaloo and Northern Soul from the BGP crew - the exciting and diverse label whose roots stretch back to the birth of modern club culture in the late 80s and join the dots between today's dance music and its past in funk, jazz and soul.
The Killer Meters are representing the sound of 21years of BGP - retro, 70's funk and soul. They take their name and inspiration from 70's funk band The Meters and play a combination of own tracks and cover versions including the The Meters'. The Killer Meters is lead by Karime Kendra, the showgirl on vocals who consistently delivers a charismatic and energetic live performance. Henry Broadbent flips between organ, clavinova and percussion, Kerim Gunes is bass, Nick Hirsch is guitar, Stephen Wilcox is sax and the down-tempo virtuoso Virgil Howe aka Sparo is drums.
Dean Rudland and Andy Smith will be going head-to-head with more funk soul jazz and the Swiss man Yann H, who hosts Rec and Play nights in Switzerland, will be spinning the hip-hop to warm things up.
