For Most non-Nigerians, the drama and beauty of Yoruba culture remains a closed book. And even younger Nigerians, whose education has been tempered by the immediate concerns of international culture and global economics, there are mysteries aplenty...
The Yoruba people have much to be proud of: look at the way in which the English celebrate their great writers such as Shakespeare, the Japanese their ancient theatrical traditions. Or, in the vein of popular culture, see how famous Brazil and Trinidad have became through their Carnivals.
An annual Osun Gbamila Festival would change all that, gradually putting Yoruba Culture on the international world stage-where it belongs alongside so many other great world cultures.
This concert is in Aid of Gbamila Festival of Art's and Culture in Association with Afriklub, Vampi-Soul, and Lagos Weekend Television from Lagos.
Vampi-soul the Spanish Label who are behind several Nigerian releases of Late, includes Highlife compilations, (which was compiled by john Armstrong for Vampi-Soul) Victor Olaiya Album compilation, (sixties funky recording, of one of the greatest Nigerian musician, compiled /Sleeve noted by Max Reinhardt) and Fred-Fisher Album Compilations put together by Kayode Samuel will be show-case on the night with our Naijazz Band from London , and DJing on the Night, will be the Vampi-soul Crew from Spain ,with our own John Armstrong.
And the line up, includes Nigeria uk sensational artist May Seven who is based in the uk, Handsome Murphy Alabi Uk Fuji Artist, Naijazz Band also Uk Base Band and Special Guest's from Nigeria, The legendry highlife super star Fatai Rolling Dollar and his new millennium band of Africa, Muri Thunder Shanko Karube No 1 Fuji Artist's in Nigeria.
