JAMIE FINLAY & HIS BAND (WAH WAH 45S ALBUM LAUNCH)

Jamie Finlay: composer, producer, musician, DJ, and all-round good guy from Manchester, comes through with his debut album for Wah Wah 45s. 'Pocket Science' is a culmuination of three years of toil, with many incredible experiences and lessons learnt along the way. The album contains all the underground hits, like 'Little Trumpet', 'Show Me', 'Temperature' and 'Step Forward', that have been getting Djs and tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff and the Part Time Heroes hot under the collar for some time now, but as well as that, it also sheds light onto the subtle songwriting capabilities of this young man, and holds a hint as to what we can expect next....

Critics have long been tipping Master Finlay as ‘a name to watch' and have compared his sound to Prince, Plantlife, George Clinton and, legendary producers, the Mizell Brothers. His debut contains all of these influences and a whole lot more, making this show one of the most anticipated by any up-and-coming musician in the whole festival.

THE FILTHY SIX

The Filthy Six are fast establishing themselves as one of the finest live acts around. A London based group, they play a hip-shakingly powerful mixture of soul jazz, funk and boogaloo in the finest traditions of late 60's Blue Note artists such as Lou Donaldson, Grant Green, Jimmy McGriff and Donald Byrd. With both original music and classics from the golden period of Soul Jazz the band honed their skills at their monthly residency (The Thursday Boogaloo) at the infamous Tatty Bogle club in London's Soho. Currently hosting a monthly night at the world famous Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, London, they have also been invited to burn up venues and dancefloors all across the UK and Europe, including shows in Stockholm, Paris, Geneva, Isle of Wight International Jazz Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Like their heroes before them, their music appeals to hard-core groovers and potent jazz heads alike. The sextet is comprised of some of London's hottest musicians who have worked with a variety of artists from home and abroad including Jill Scott, Mark Ronson, Basement Jaxx, Amy Winehouse, 4Hero, David Axelrod, Bobby Wellins, Hard-Fi, Randy Brecker, JTQ, Richard Ashcroft, Ed Harcourt, Natalie Williams, Stacey Kent, The Heritage Orchestra, and Nostalgia77.

The Filthy Six have just completed recording their debut album ‘Knockout' - an energetic collection of horn led, organ fuelled original material including the gospel inflected title track, soul jazz grooves and highly danceable deep funk.

"These guys have got all the licks. Soul jazz how we like it, rough rugged and played by guys totally on top of their game. A very exctiting addition to the UK scene" - The Craig Charles Funk And Soul Show, BBC 6Music
