Tonight Cargo is thrilled to welcome MERDAN TAPLAK!
andnbsp;
Merdan Taplak, born in Antwerp and raised Asianly, is without doubt the next big thing in the Belgian and European deejay scene. Rocking all stages of all major festivals in Belgium, Merdan Taplak is hitting the crowd and he is hitting them hard. Often referred to as "the Bosphorusandrsquo; third bridge", he creates a new world with new sounds through melodies from across the globe, passionately reconciled into electronic worldgroove. Like a Turkish grocer, trafficking in sounds. A fresh shop, always discovering new flavours which take you by surprise. You wonandrsquo;t believe your ears. Not even mentioning your legs. Merdans international acclaim is growing steadily, due to his energetic dj-sets and upcomming electro-world productions. His latest single, "MARCH OF THE SULTANS" is supported by lots of worldmusic deejays, worldfamous deejay Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio One) called it "a festival banger!". The track has been compiled on the infamous "BALKAN BEATS" compilation by Robert Soko. The METISSE EP covers both sides of Merdans musical spectrum: a heavily electrified track topped with african vocals, an absolute floorfiller. Merdan is highly positioned as a deejay/producer but he keeps on going. Attending every (world)music festival, he is acknowledged by international connoisseurs as one of the rising stars in his genre. From New York to Vienna, from Brussels to Berlin, Merdan Taplak mashes it up globally!

Sat 13th March / MEMORY TAPES

<where></where>

<tickets></tickets>

After a sold out show at The Luminaire in January, MEMORY TAPES is back to play at Cargo. A one man band based in New Jersey, he's been dropping bombs (as memory cassette and weird tapes) on Gorilla vs Bear through 2008 to huge acclaim and massive blog proliferation. His sound is nostalgic both aesthetically and emotionally - so there is little surprise when comparisons drift to outfits such as Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, New Order and Boards of Canada. More established pop references come through as well with echoes of classic Motown and girl groups. After the great reception that greeted his debut album, the ever prolific, MEMORY TAPES intends to make two albums a year, promising that the next one will a psychedelic girl group record.

Sparhawk is leader of wonderful rock outfit Low, but if Low are masters of restrained and understated slowcore rock gems, the choir trio sees Alan in an energized and almost wild mood. andnbsp;RGC released their debut albums back in 2008 to enthusiastic applaud by critics and Low fans alike. andnbsp;Now that their second release is approaching, they arrive at Cargo to give us a taste of their raw and powerful guitar driven sound, down to earth aesthetics and excellent classic rock melodies. RGC manage to capture the honesty of some of the best of 90's grunge and 70's rock, while still remaining truly original.

Brother Ali's last album, the critically acclaimed, The Undisputed Truth, was a landmark in hip-hop, an album that carried weight equally with critics and fans alike, an album of bold statements and bolder beats, politically and socially aware without being preachy. His new album, Us (Rhymesayers Entertainment), is a progression that will make Brother Ali one of the most enduring figures in hip-hop; while still aware, Ali has turned his gaze inward, and started examining the human condition from the outside in. A profound personal glimpse into a vulnerability seldom seen or heard in music, Us touches on the strengths and flaws of the human condition, exploring drug abuse, divorce, homophobia and many more topics that most people are scared to touch in their own lives, much less on an album for the world to see.

andnbsp;
Headlining tonight will be the world-famous DJ LOTTIE!
andnbsp;
Inspired by her teenage years at the legendary Haandccedil;ienda in Manchester Lottie has gone on to become a major presence on the European club circuit. Winning awards such as Sony Ericsson Musik magazines "Best New DJ" and Dancestars "Best breakthrough DJ" in the last decade she found her first residency at Londons infamous club Turnmills. After landing her first Essential mix Lottie then started to tour the World doing what she loves the most and decided to start her own night in London "missdemeanours" with friend Caroline Prothero where Josh Wink, Daft Punk, Felix Da Housecat and Jacques Le Cont would play alongside her for their legendary word-of-mouth weekly parties. She also became a regular guest host for Pete Tongs "Essential Selection" on Radio 1 and started producing and releasing tracks on her own missdemeanours imprint. Now known best for her edgy, electronic style Lottie enthuses about her love of producing and playing to thousands of people..... andldquo;I'm always hungry for new music and I think that's what makes a good DJ,andrdquo; she exclaims. andldquo;When I'm playing music I want people to really enjoy themselves, but I also want them to hear stuff that they haven't heard before that messes with their minds. When you're playing or listening to music all the time you have to be really excited about it which is why electronic dance music is so great, it's constantly evolving" This year sees her reside at Manumission in Ibiza at their new home Amnesia.."This year's going to be really special I can't wait! The new home makes everything feel so fresh and Manumission is the craziest party on Earth!". Lottie loves some the places her craft takes her,"I just love playing the terrace at Space every year, also "Tenax" in Florence, "Sirena" in Brazil Sao Paulo and "The Mix" in Paris rock my World. Having remixed everyone from Jamiroquai to Caged Baby, and teaming up with Serge Santiago for their much loved rave anthem remix of It's Magic" Lottie has now teamed up with Pete Martin from Coburn under the Dr Strangelove alias. Theyandrsquo;ve already remixed David Guetta, hot new indie act A Human and have new material coming out at the end of the summer, the first single entitled "Strange Times". "This is an exciting time for us, we work well together and there's nothing better than seeing your own music rock a dancefloor".

andnbsp;
The Besnard Lakes, the Montreal collective fronted by husband-and-wife duo Olga Goreas and Jace Lasek, has returned, crafting a majestic, sprawling vision of guitar bombast and captivating pop experiments.
andnbsp;
The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night was recorded at Lasek's Breakglass Studios with a vintage 1968 Neve germanium mixing console used to record portions of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti. The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night is a dark bliss-out that folds the eerie guitar epics of the band's breakthrough, The Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse, into a wall of affected drones and atmospherics. The toughened immediacy and grit that gives the form a much-needed shove over the cliffs makes for a haunting, provocative swan dive into the crushing tide.

Across the years, Adam Fandrsquo;s contribution to the world of drum andamp; bass (and indeed beyond) has been huge. His 1997 debut album Colours still stands today as a classic of the genre, full of classy, atmospheric rollers and live instrumentation that set the ball rolling for the liquid side of Dandamp;B to emerge, while a few years later his KAOS project broke new ground, with many of the worldandrsquo;s biggest rappers (De La Soul, Redman, LL Cool J, Pharaoh Monchetc) helping him realise his vision of hip-hop andndash; and in the process turning many of them and their fellow Americans on to his Dandamp;B styles and remixes too.andnbsp;Over the last 5 or so years, heandrsquo;s been far from prolific on the production front andndash; as far as the stuff heandrsquo;s known for goes andndash; but his legacy to the Dandamp;B world has continued with his excellent Breakbeat Kaos label, bringing the world Pendulumandrsquo;s stunning debut album Hold Your Colour, and helping to bring through talents like Baron, Brookes Brothers and Nero.

DEEP STREET SOULDeep Street Soul are funk DJ andamp; drummer Sol Loco, bass player andamp; soul aficionado Papa 'J' Hunter, Steve Cropper disciple' Matt 'MG' Green and Queen of the Hammond Monique 'Mon Cherie' Boggia. Getting together in early 2006 they formed with the simple aim of recapturing some old skool southern flavors they had DJ'd with over the previous decade. Inspired by the breakout of nufunk throughout Europe andamp; the States (not forgetting Osaka Monaurail and Australia's own - The Bamboos) they hit the clubs. Starting with an initial batch of Booker T andamp; Meters covers, these quickly morphed into their own set of break filled funk andamp; soul.

Out from depths of the age of convenience and mass synthetic sound has arrived a concept still fresh, fantastically intangible and technically dazzling. These five extraordinary young women expand the realms of vocal possibility, blending exceptional harmonies with extraordinary sounds and ground-shaking beats. This electrifying phenomenon is an enigma that can only be fully realised once witnessed. Welcome to the amazing world that is the Boxettes. andnbsp;Well surpassing just about any expectations one could possibly have on a girl band, the Boxettesandrsquo; show leaves everyone (and I mean everyone) inspired, moved, and quite stunned. Among the personnel is melodic songstress Yvette, vivacious diva Neo, enigmatic siren Harriet, entrancing songbird Alyusha and the current female beatbox world champion, Bellatrix.A concoction of masterful song writing, enthralling stage presence and awe-inspiring sounds from these five musical personalities make them the most diverse and eclectic female group out there.andnbsp;andnbsp;Five chics grooving harder than youandrsquo;d care to believe, the Boxettes present their full show feat. andnbsp;
andnbsp;
ABOUT OOOM:
andldquo;OUT OF OUR MINDSandrdquo; (OOOM ) is Melissa Auf der Maurandrsquo;s upcoming solo album and is the key component of her independently produced 21st Century concept album - a multi-media experience that beyond the rock album includes a short film with an original score and a comic book. All these elements will come together in an elaborate website that explores the multi-layered MAdM/OOOM adventure. The film portion premiered at Sundance film festival 2009, and the rest is set to unfold throughout 2009 into the new year..
andnbsp;
andnbsp;
ABOUT MAdM:
Melissa Auf der Maur (MAdM) was born and raised in Montreal, Canada with a fine arts education focusing on Music and Photography. From 1994-1999 she was a member, songwriter and
bass player of the international rock band andldquo;Holeandrdquo;, culminating in the Billboard and Grammy nominated album andldquo;Celebrity Skinandrdquo; released in 1998. In 2000 she joined andldquo;the Smashing Pumpkinsandrdquo;
for their farewell world tour. In 2004 andldquo;Auf der Maurandrdquo;, her first solo album, was released by Capitol Records / EMI worldwide. Sheandnbsp;toured Europe and North America for over a year in support of
this album. The album featured esteemed guest appearances by members of Queens of the Stone Age, NIN and A Perfect Circle. She has made numerous guest appearances with other music
artists including: Indochine, Ryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright, Ric Ocasek and K-OS. She has exhibited her photography in New York, Montreal and Tokyo and her photos have been published

multimedia project andldquo;Out of Our Mindsandrdquo;, featuring her next Album, Film, Comic Book and Website.
andnbsp;
andnbsp;
OOOM ALBUM:
MAdM, follow-up solo album. Guest Stars: Glenn Danzig, members of NIN, Helmet / Battles and Priestess. Plus more than an albumandrsquo;s worth of B-sides, outtakes, demos and extra collaborations
featuring Ryan Adams and Billy Corgan. A pumping heart is the sound of the albumandrsquo;s beginning and
end. The journey in-between brings us through stories of earthly things, like andldquo;Fatherandrsquo;s Graveandrdquo; to more mystical tales such as andldquo;Meet Me on the Dark Sideandrdquo; and title track andldquo;Out of our Mindsandrdquo;. The album was produced by Melissa Auf der Maur with Jordon Zadorozny and Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, Masters of Reality). It is a departure from her more straight- ahead rock debut, but it is a natural evolution that explores her diverse influences.

UPSET THE RHYTHM PRESENTS: CHAIN AND THE GANG
andnbsp;
Having displayed his renaissance-man credentials for all the world to see, Ian Svenonius andmdash;the former frontman of the Nation of Ulysses, Cupid Car Club, the Make-Up, the Scene Creamers, and Weird Warandmdash; is back with a shiny new project: Chain and the Gang. Apparently "concerned that the spread of liberty has been detrimental to the world" andmdash;citing "fast food, bad architecture, militarism, rampant greed, environmental destruction, imperial conquest, [and] class struggle" as evidenceandmdash; Svenonius says his band name is a plea for bondage; a catch-all for his new, tongue-in-cheek anti-freedom movement.
andnbsp;
Suitably enough, the first Chain and the Gang album is titled Down with Liberty... Up with Chains! And though Candamp;TG essentially finds Svenonius working solo for the first time since his 2001 album as David Candy, he does get help from such K Records luminaries as label founder Calvin Johnson and Blow heroine Khaela Maricich.

The alternative pop/rock and lo-fi recordings of Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti are full of intrigue -- and full of contradictions. Pink, a male singer, composer, musician, and producer who is based in Los Angeles, provides songs that are melodic, catchy, and familiar -- songs that, in their own unorthodox way, recall the most immediate, accessible, straightforward FM pop/rock of the '70s and '80s.

Crystal Antlers were once a band of chimneysweeps-doing door-to-door hustle with broom and top hat all across the same California suburbs responsible for Saccharine Trust and the Middle Class, and after a long day up on the roof they'd return to write songs that went spiraling into space.
andnbsp;
By now, they've played almost everywhere: shows at the shuttered Mondo Video-home of various outrandeacute; porn shoots, where photos of band members' vitals were reportedly displayed on the wall-and at biker (leather kind, not spandex kind) fests in Vegas and metal fests in Reno and hill-top tee-pees in Los Angeles and even aboard a supercharged speedboat cutting messy diagonals in the Pacific with Crystal Antlers planted resolutely between the amplifiers and the mini-fridge.

A very exciting new project from the man at the helm of the Nostalgia 77 ship Ben Lamdin, this is one of the draws of the Summer as the Brighton bunch turn their hand to a live, afro psychedelic funk band called Skeletons.Benedic Lamdin is a musician, producer and engineer. He has produced a string of highly acclaimed LPs as Nostalgia 77 for Tru Thoughts; he also produces all the releases for his own label, Impossible Ark, including this one.He says: "Skeletons is a made up band. I kid you not - it doesn't exist. These musicians never stood in the studio together, they just passed through my house or left some scraps of sound behind after sessions we were working on. This record is like a guy, pieced together and ready for the bonfire... Some of the music here started life as commissions for a library music company, pastiches and forgeries paid for by the current vogue for a certain style of African jazz. Once I'd done a few though I couldn't stop... to me the whole thing has been a self indulgent forgery, an act of mindless fun. If it sounds good then it's because I just enjoyed the music and enjoyed myself."

They are up there with Sharon Jonesandrsquo; Dap Kings in the danceability, authenticity and cool stakes and andndash; oh ok, if you insist we go there andndash; bandleaderandnbsp;Lance Ferguson (aka production wunderkind Lanu) more than rivals your Mark Ronsons in the categories of andbdquo;busiest man in funkand#8223; and andbdquo;crossover cover version geniusand#8223;andhellip;not to mention that all important tie-breaker, andbdquo;pop star looksand#8223;. Their version of Kings Of Leonandrsquo;s andldquo;King Of The Rodeoandrdquo; last year scored the XFM andbdquo;X-Posure Hot Oneand#8223; accolade, BBCandnbsp;6Music daytime play, and nearly 150,000 YouTube hits.andnbsp;The Bamboosandrsquo; knack for attention-grabbing videos and irresistible singles continues with the first single from andbdquo;4and#8223;: andldquo;On The Slyandrdquo; featuring Kylie Auldist (out Feb andrsquo;10) has already amassed over 5,000 YouTube hits in its first couple of weeks, revealing a demand for this song that is bound to see it gracing the most high profile of playlists.Exploding out of the deep funk/soul scene of the early 2000s, The Bamboos have since cultivated a unique signature sound which takes all the heavy elements of the style and blends it with a catchy pop sensibility and a healthy respect for the classic song form. andldquo;The Bamboosand#8223; music has never been limited to this andbdquo;Deep Funkand#8223; scene. Iand#8223;ve always aimed for the music to stand up on its own free of any labelsandrdquo;, says Ferguson. Indeed,The Bamboos have been testing their music alongside the best in the business, making the transition over the last few years to playing large-scale festivals -andnbsp;worlds away from the small club funk nights where they got their start. andldquo;Itand#8223;s important that we can come out and play to a big festival crowd after a rock band and be judged on our own merits. Itand#8223;s all about the songs, and if theandnbsp;songs stand up then the crowd will be on your sideandhellip;andrdquo;andnbsp;The Bamboos delight in infusing the tight, instrumental dancefloor style they have so expertly nailed with Motown, Mod and Northern soul to straight-up, ballsy, vocal funk sass and whatever is rocking Fergusonand#8223;s perennially curious musical sensibility. And andbdquo;4and#8223; brings to the table elements of rock, pop, psychedelia and hip hop, heralding another twist in their sonic path. It is soul and funk music for today, not mired in over-the-top adherence to simply copying what has been done many times before. andldquo;Itand#8223;s 2010. Just because The Bamboos have come out of the funk scene doesnand#8223;t make ourandnbsp;music any less modern or more retro than the music I hear people making in the indie, folk or electro scenes.andrdquo;andnbsp;Bamboos vocalist Kylie Auldistandrsquo;s work on this album could truly be described as virtuoso, especially on tracks such as andldquo;On The Slyandrdquo;; huge live number andldquo;The Ghostandrdquo; - in which she really changes up the vocal style range-wise and shows us sheandrsquo;s got many more tricks up her sleeve andndash; and the hard-hitting track andldquo;Keep Me In Mindandrdquo;, that sees Kylie delivering possibly her best ever recorded vocal performance on a chorus hook that is equal parts gospel soul and hip hop. Other vocalists also add a major degree of excitement: adored US rapper Lyrics Born features on the party funk number, andldquo;Turn It Upandrdquo;; and the incredibly catchy, fresh and unique andldquo;You Ainand#8223;t No Goodandrdquo; features the mysterious and reclusive Tongan, King Merc, more of whom may become known when this tracks drops as the second single, later in 2010. The brooding guitar figure, andrsquo;60s soulandnbsp;drums and reverbed-out claps come across like the mutant love child of Phil Spector and Gnarls Barkley - setting up King Mercandrsquo;s soul-drenched vocal like a rough mounting for a fine stone.
