<where></where>

<tickets></tickets>

In the spring of 2007 the unlikely trio of married couple DeDe, Thomas and mate Darren joined forces and the conceptual band 'We Have Band' came to life. Despite its origins as a lark, the trio soon realised that they were onto something much greater than they imagined.
andnbsp;
"We invited Darren over to our place for dinner," says Thomas "And then we all went upstairs and played around with a Korg drum machine. We put it through a shitty guitar pedal and our first song 'WHB' was born. And that's the version we've kept." "It's true," adds Darren "The first DER DER DER drum beat that starts that song is literally the first sound that the trio created."
andnbsp;
Drawing from a well of influences that include ESG, Animal Collective and The Rapture, the band created their own sound - a 21st Century mixtape that defies categorisation or pigeonholing. Early singles like the vibrating punk funk monster 'Oh!' (released on 50 Bones records) and the fuzzy, descending disco of 'Hear It In The Cans' (available on the sixth Kitsune Maison compilation) showed the trio's playful, disco side but there's more to them than meets the eye.
The final product is much bigger than their singles and beloved Myspace songs suggest. Beat heavy, yes, but also warm, organic and much more complex, melody driven and beautiful than you would expect.

Sat 18th February / Sound Advice

<where></where>

<tickets></tickets>

Marcin Czubala is not your typical House and Techno artist. He is mobilee recordandrsquo;s maestro, with a grounding in classical orchestration and an instinct for intricate sound design.
andnbsp;
Marcinandrsquo;s work stems from a broad range of influences, yet always bears his unmistakable signature. From the spare, bleepy minimalism of his debut album Chronicles of Never on mobilee, to explorations of disco, electronic pop and deep house with mobilee Back to Back Vol. 5, Marcinandrsquo;s work is overlaid with undulating grooves that are full of unpredictable twists and inexplicable turns that artfully draw the listener into the suspense.
andnbsp;
Hailing originally from Poland, Marcin trained extensively in classical music theory and composition in the city of Poznan. Between 1991 and 1994 he performed in over 300 concerts, including the Nantes Festival, Warsaw Autumn, and performances with experimental music luminary Krzysztof Penderecki. Once he had graduated from music school, Marcin began branching out into the world of DJing and electronic production. He began releasing his own productions that were as equally influenced by his musical past as they were by the emergent sounds of Brighton techno and experimental electronica. As prolific as he is prodigious, Marcin had a myriad of releases for labels such as Neue Heimat and Morris Audio by the time he joined forces with mobilee in 2007.
andnbsp;
Marcin hit the ground running for mobilee, releasing two singles in just six months, followed by Chronicles of Never, which garnered critical acclaim for its wide sonic palette, willful experimentation and dancefloor appeal. From the lithe, dynamic and atmospheric soundscapes of his album debut, through shifts towards housier climes on Loose The Man and Zoo Comunale, Marcin has now come full circle, back to live instruments, vocal harmonies and organic arrangements for mobilee Back to Back Vol. 5.
andnbsp;
Split between curated mobilee cuts and a complete album of exclusive new material, Marcin's approach to mobilee Back to Back is best described by Marcin himself: andldquo;CD #1 is my choice of the best tracks of mobilee, it's my presentation of the label's vision and musical diversity. The 2nd CD is a long play album, I have no doubt. The main idea was to make this project very organic, using live instrumentation and working with musicians and vocalists. Genres interact together; it's really beyond a classic compilation concept." From its dance floor groovers, to its ambient soundscapes and across its classic pop arrangements, mobilee Back to Back showcases Marcinandrsquo;s flair for irresistible rhythms, and his instinct for melody.
andnbsp;
Marcin continues to expand his sound with mobilee and through each of his releases. Inspired by minimal techno and house, but not bound to its bare-bones idealism, he continues to forge a sound that is his alone, in testament to the vision, passion, and love of music that continues to drive the extended mobilee team in all that they do, and all that will come.

Bird On The Wire Presents: Tycho
andnbsp;
Tycho (Scott Hansen) is a producer and artist based in San Francisco, California. While Boards of Canada's blissful/melancholic IDM is an obvious inspiration, Tycho's productions play out like complete electronic dream pop songs in isolation rather than vignettes or extended mood pieces. Tycho debuted in 2002 and after the 2006 album Past Is Prologue (Merck), settled in with Ghostly International (also home to Com Truise), where he released the 2011 album Dive.andnbsp;What separates Tycho from a lot of the bedroom-oriented artists currently exploring similar sounds is simple craft. In place of the tinny, synthetic beats favored by lots of indie-ambient startups, Hansen takes extra care to capture real live drum sounds with a crack and thump that makes you feel like you're in the room with them.

Electronic rock duo Phantogram came out of nowhere in early 2010 with the release of their debut album eyelid movies. Their music, a mix of organic and electronic sounds, with swirling guitar, spaced-out synths, and chopped up samples and rhythms, was widely lauded by press from Pitchfork to Alternative Press, Spin to NPR. Founders Josh Carter (vocals, guitar, samples) and Sarah Barthel (vocals, keys, samples), having replaced their previous day jobs with new careers touring the world and living on the road, have had to find ways to work steadily on new music while constantly in motion. After finally clearing some space to finish and master a batch of new songs the band was supremely excited to release new mini-LP nightlife on November 1st (Barsuk Records).

Sharon Van Ettenandrsquo;s debut album on Jagjaguwar records, Tramp, will be released February 7. The album, which is the culmination of 14 months of scattered recording sessions with the Nationalandrsquo;s Aaron Dessner, contains as much striking rock as pious, minimal beauty; it can be as emotionally combative as it can sultry. Contributions from Matt Barrick (The Walkmen), Thomas Bartlett (aka Doveman), Zach Condon (Beirut), Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak), Julianna Barwick, and Dessner himself add a glowing sheen to the already substantial offering.

<tickets></tickets>

Damien Jurado is a singer- songwriter in the indie-rock tradition of Seattle, Washington. His music is regarded as being heavily influenced by folk music. Over the years he has released albums on many labels; today his primary label is Secretly Canadian. He was once in the band, Coolidge, with Seattleandrsquo;s David Bazan
andnbsp;
Welcome toandnbsp;Maraqopa, population 2.andnbsp;Damien Jurado's newest collaboration with producer Richard Swift drops us into a brutal and benevolent landscape.andnbsp;The bold strokes and new turns the pair made with 2010'sandnbsp;Saint Bartlettandnbsp;are taken even further. He throws open the gate on his oft insular dirges and allows them do some real wilding out in the canyon. Inandnbsp;Maraqopa, the vistas are miles-wide; the action is more dynamic; the close-ups extreme and sweaty and snarling. The strummed desert blues that begins "Nothing is the News" quickly bursts open into an Eddie Hazel-worthy supernova-cum-blackhole shred session, all of it swirling in tinny-psych and Echoplex'd howls. We've never heard anything like this from Jurado.andnbsp;
andnbsp;
Fifteen years into his remarkable career, and he continues to blossom.andnbsp;Jurado and Swift establish themselves not only as inventive, trusting collaborators, but as one another'sandnbsp;spirit animals inandnbsp;American outsider songcraft andmdash;lone wolves in black sheep's clothing. Swift is the Ennio Morricone to Jurado's Sergio Leone.
andnbsp;
London fans can catch an intimate solo set at the Enterprise Monday January 23, as part of a European promo trip. Damien will return for a full-band exclusive London show atandnbsp;Cargo on Monday March 12, with more UK shows in the works for later in 2012.
